Description
Segoffin offers us a poignant image of old age by showing the withered body of a woman ravaged by time. He follows in the tradition of Auguste Rodin’s La Belle Heaulmière (1885-1887) and Jules Desbois’s La Misère (1884-1894). The motif of the aging female model, her beauty faded, thus became a true “vanitas” with universal appeal.
